Stephen Hawking has finally weighed in on one of the most important conversations of our time: Zayn Malik's departure from One Direction.

During the question and answer portion of a lecture at the Sydney Opera House, an audience member asked Hawking, "What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?"

Hawking, who was onstage in 3D hologram form (because when you're Stephen Hawking, you don't just Skype in), gave the absolute perfect response.

"Finally, a question about something important," Hawking joked. "My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics. Because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes."

"It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe — and in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction."

Hawking then added, "This girl may like to know that in another possible universe, she and Zayn are happily married."

And with that possibility in mind, the hearts of One Direction fans began to mend all over the world.

So thanks Mr. Hawking, for being in our universe, healing our hearts and allowing us imagine other universes where Ginger never left the Spice Girls and Britney and Justin were able to work things out (but maybe no matching denim).
