Hailey Fort may be a young girl, but she's using her big voice to change her community one good deed at a time. Hailey sees a need and takes action, which is why WomensForum is including her as one of our Awesome Girls changing the world, in honor of Melody Ellison™, the newest BeForever™ character from American Girl.

17782-ag-melody-illustrationIn Melody's story, set in 1960s Detroit, Michigan, during the civil rights movement, the 9-year-old looks around her community and is compelled to stand up and speak out in favor of equal rights. Melody's determination and positive outlook reminds readers that you are never too young to #LiftYourVoice.

Hailey Fort is also an inspiration in her neighborhood with her compassionate deeds for the homeless. Hailey realizes that those in need may not feel like they have a voice, so she lifts not only her own voice, but also her mind, her muscles, and the help of others in her community to get the job done.

When Hailey was just 5 years old she saw a homeless man on the street and asked her mom if she could buy him a sandwich. From that first random act of kindness, Hailey was hooked! With a heart full of hope and compassion, she began giving her time to help the homeless. She considered the people she met as new friends and looked for ways to make their lives easier.

ag-button-what-did-she-doLast year Hailey had the idea to build a mobile sleeping shelter to give a homeless person a place to sleep and store possessions. She raised the money, gathered donated supplies and lifted a hammer to build the shelter herself. When she saw her homeless friends needed fresh food, she planted a garden and has already harvested over 128 pounds of produce! Last winter, when Hailey realized people needed coats, including kids in her own class, she collected coat donations and gave the gift of warmth to those in need in her community.

ag-button-see-more-herYou can follow Hailey's adventures in gardening and her next season of coat collecting on her Facebook page, Hailey's Harvest, with photos and stories updating her 50,000 followers about the progress and results of her hard work. Hailey has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for her cause. Here she keeps donors up to date on her latest giving projects.

Hailey lifts her voice to ask what her community needs, and she builds, grows and collects in response. Her altruism followed by action is a shining example for other Awesome Girls.

Womensforum and American Girl are inspired by Hailey Fort, and we're sure you are too. So share your story! Check out the video below and visit AmericanGirl.com/liftyourvoice to learn more. Show the world how you and your daughter #LiftYourVoice.
