Let’s talk about appropriate Halloween costumes for kids.
Dr. Deborah Gilboa always gets asked parenting questions. One that always seems to come up at this time of year is how to talk to kids about appropriate Halloween costumes. Dr. G said this is a time to warm up for teenage conversations about clothing and about the message your daughter wants to send through her clothing choices. Although this may be a conversation for girls more often, you can use these talking points about appropriate Halloween costumes for boys, too.
Talking About Appropriate Halloween Costumes to Kids
- Ask your kids: What kind of message do you want to send?
- Talk to your kids about why you’ve got to say no about something.
- Ask: Who is it that you want to dress as? Try to find an image of that person online dressed in something more appropriate for your child’s age.
- Talk about the message she’s getting from the person she’s interested in pretending to be and how she can respect herself and still dress up like that person.
We hope this helps you on your quest to find appropriate Halloween costumes for kids.
