Thanksgiving is a perfect time to uncork a few nice bottles!
Perhaps you have tasty vintages that you have been saving for just such an occasion or that you recently bought at your wine shop. You and your guests will appreciate these bottles and may enjoy the Thanksgiving feast even more than usual. My Sally’s Place wine contributor, Jon Rusciano, offers these Thanksgiving wine recommendations.
Thanksgiving is a time for hearty flavors to complement the light turkey meat. Rusciano recommends red Zinfandels produced in Napa and Sonoma. Howell Mountain is Zin-Mecca with the three best producers being Outpost, Robert Craig and Lamborn. On the Napa floor, Rusciano recommends Chase Cellars. Sonoma’s top Zinfandel producer is Hartford Family and he also likes the jammy flavors of Martinelli.
Be sure and consult your wine retailer as early as possible. Getting on a waiting list for the wines or ordering them directly from the winery will yield best results.
If you prefer bubbles as in sparkling wines, the wines produced by Schramsberg in the Napa Valley such as Blanc de Noirs, Brut Rose, Mirabelle and Mirabelle Brut Rose are all excellent. These sparklers are primarily made with Pinot Noir, whose grapes create a mellow essence of berries.
