The ponytail has some competition with the chic new ways to wear braids. Dressed up or down these styles give a twist to the classic look.
Braids are back and the new ways to wear them are endless. We have created a list of 5 ways to wear a braid that can either compliment a causal weekend outfit or dress up your attire for a night on the town.
1. The Front Braid
A trendy way to wear a braid is as a headband (pictured above). Braiding your hair in a headband style over the top of your head creates a look that is stylish and sexy. Top if off by adding volume and curls to the rest of your hair.
Start by parting your hair down the middle and take the front of your hair and piece it off from the hairline by a couple of inches. Take a piece of hair that is near your temple and braid it over the top of your head. Pin the end of the braid behind your ear.
2. The Messy Braid
The concept behind this braid is the messier, the better. This braid gives an adult look to a basic braid and it can be worn on the side or in multiples. Leave layers down to frame the face.
Start by braiding your hair normally in a large braid. When the braid is complete tie the end and then loosen the hair around the crown of your head by pulling on the hair gently. You can also loosen your hair by sticking your fingers in the braid and giving it a good shake.
3. The Crown Braid
The crown braid is a perfect hairstyle for a night out, it takes the braid and wraps it around the head elegantly like a crown. Place the crown high or low on the head depending on how you want it to look.
Start by dividing the hair in to two sections and clip each aside from each other. Braid the right section of the hair and tie the end with elastic, and then repeat the same on the left side. Take the right side of the hair and loop around your head, securing with bobby pins as your round the braid. Once you complete the right side, repeat this on the left, creating the crown around your head.
4. The Fishtail Braid
This particular braid is a Hollywood beauty trend. The fishtail also looks better messy and with layers framing the face. It can be worn dressed up or down and looks great pulled to the side of the head.
Divide hair in to two sections and separate a small piece of hair from the outside right section. Take this piece and cross it over to the left section. Repeat this process on the left side crossing over to the right section until the entire braid is complete. Secure the bottom with an elastic band.
5. The Poufy Braid
This particular hairstyle conveys a glamorous, teased bump in the front and a sleek braid in the back. The more volume in the front the better, and if you have bangs sweep them to the side of your face.
Start by teasing the top of the hair in to a voluminous bump. Secure the hair in a ponytail with an elastic band. Braid the ponytail and secure the bottom of the braid.
These 5 looks are all glamorous and adult ways to wear a braid. Add simple accessories that coordinate with your outfit to dress up your braid.
