Nothing is a greater interior design staple than a solid colored couch. Whether you go black or white, they can go with anything in the room. However, without the right accessories, a plain-colored couch can start to seem drab.

Placing a few eye-catching pillows or a vibrant throw can spruce up a room, but there is potential for so much more.

From Art Deco to Geometric, to Dorm Room to Mediterranean... there are so many options that can add some color and style to your plain couch. This means straying away from that frumpy cover and adding unique touches like a dazzling blanket or mirrored side table. Here are three ways to update plain furniture in your home and turn them from an average staple to a statement piece!

Art Deco

Art Deco

Originating from the glam years of the 1920’s, Art Deco is all about opulence. Mirrored side tables, lux fur rugs and graphic pillows are all important factors into obtaining this jazzy look. Just beware of fingerprints - this is all about a classy, un-chaotic look!

Mediterranean

Mediterranean

This style is all about nature, mimicking the colors of the Mediterranean sea. In the late '90s, Mediterranean style was everywhere. Now it’s time to update this look by emphasizing natural colors such as sea green with some geometric North African accents. Plop down a small wicker ottoman alongside a heavy hardware side table with colorful accents, and your living room will look like it belongs in Algiers.

Shabby Chic

Shabby Chic

This pastel colored, vintage-inspired style is both ultra-feminine and comfortable. With a simple set of sweetly colored pillows placed alongside rustic, side accents, Shabby Chic is extremely attainable while on a budget. Make it a weekend and go antique hunting! With a little paint and sandpaper, you’re sure to find some fab shabby chic touches.
