Planning on watching your team's big game this weekend? Or another big game sometime soon? Then you're going to need some snacks! It doesn't have to be hot dogs and pizza. Game Day snacks can also include vegan recipes like black bean burgers, guacamole and beer-braised kale.
When people think of vegan food, guacamole often gets left behind. Add this dish to your gamewatch menu and it will be the first thing eaten off the table.
- 3-4 large avocados
- 1 Cup chopped tomatoes
- ½ Cup chopped red onion
- 2 chopped jalepaneos
- 2 or more cloves of garlic
- ½ Cup cilantro
- 1.5 limes to squeeze
Mix the ingredients together in a bowl and stir until all the flavors have blended. Squeeze the limes on top of the mixture and add salt if desired.
Black Bean Burgers
One of the best things about black bean burgers is how easy they are to prepare at home. They're also a good source of protein for people who opt out of animal products.
- 16 oz. Of canned black beans
- Chop ½ green, red, or yellow bell pepper
- Chop ½ onion
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon chili power
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- ½ cup bread crumbs
Mash the ingredients together and coat the pan with your choice of oil. Make sure the black bean patty is cooked throughouly before removing from pan. Serve with or without a bun.
Most often this recipe is made with bacon or pork belly. But, by adding vegetables instead of pork, vegan options are available.
- 1 bunch of kale
- 1 Cup of favorite beer
- 2 tablespoons of garlic powder
- Dash of salt and pepper
- Let the kale soak overnight in the mixture of beer, salt and spices. In the morning the dark, leafy green will have absorbed the flavor. It can be served cold, but is best heated up on the stove or in the microwave.
By preparing a variety of dishes for the big game, you can please all of your guests and leave them begging for more. Providing vegan options at your gamewatch party will give guests more nutrients alongside the hotdogs and chili pie.
