“My body, my mind, my choice,” the narrator says as the video begins.
As part of the #VogueEmpower campaign, the piece is intended to get people talking about women’s empowerment. The video, titled "My Choice," also helps to mark the seventh anniversary of Vogue in India.
The film, directed by Homi Adajania, is based on a piece written by Kersi Khambatta. Other women featured in the piece include actress Nimrat Kaur, celebrity hairstylist Adhuna Akhtar, and author Anupama Chopra.
In the description of the video on YouTube, Padukone talks about the importance of women having a voice.
"I've always been allowed to be who I want to be,” she says. “When you're not caged, when you don't succumb to expectation, that's when you're empowered."
The narration in the piece is full of the myriad choices women have, and how our choices help define us and are what make us unique. From the decision to get married, have children, or be sexually active, the women in the video form a diverse spectrum of experiences.
“I am the universe, infinite in every direction,” the narrator says as the video comes to a close. “This is my choice.”
