Award season has officially kicked off!
Our favorite Hollywood couples are either fighting divorce rumors or fueling them, including doing so at the MTV Video Music Awards. Find out what happened this weekend during the star-studded award show, as well as other entertainment news from over the weekend.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's Marriage On The Rocks
News broke late last week that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have been reportedly living apart in recent months and that a divorce could be in the future. Their usual projection of love and PDA has been put on hold as split rumors grow.
The songstress, 44, and the comedian/actor, 33, have twins Moroccan and Monroe turning four in April. The sweet family is known for referring to their kids as "dem babies" and are usually privy to posting Instagram and Twitter pictures featuring the loving family of four. However, it seems as though things might be taking a turn for the worse.
Reports claim that Cannon is eager to travel and work in order to enhance his entertainment career, which is angering Mariah. According to reports, Carey has insisted Cannon spend time at home with the family because he doesn’t need to work on account of Carey’s enormous financial comfort. The two have been back and forth about the situation for months and then on Thursday, Cannon made the mistake of going public with the information.
Against his wife wishes, Cannon broke his silence to The Insider, confirming that he and Carey have been
"living in separate houses for a few months." Cannon went on to say that indeed, there is "trouble in paradise" and the "main focus is the kids."
As Carey was allegedly fuming, her publicist issued a statement saying, "I am not commenting on Mariah’s personal life, but Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."
Friday morning, Carey posted a picture of "dem babies" on Instagram:
Diem Brown Fighting Colon Cancer
Diem Brown, MTV star from The Challenge and Fresh Meat, has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time. Describing this point in her life as "dark," she has stated that her celebrity platform allows her to connect with others enduring the same struggle.
At the age of 23, Brown was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and suffered a reoccurrence in 2012. Now at the age of 32, the reality star is battling colon cancer and released a statement via her sister.
"Both mentally, physically and emotionally the most traumatic. I’ve been needing some hope to fight for, some light to look forward to at the end of this journey. I find that strength in my family, friends, and fans. People I’ve never met believe in me, I can’t let them down! I won’t."
Our thoughts are with Diem during this difficult time.
VMA’s Biggest Moments
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards was one for the books. Contrary to last year’s controversial twerking performance from Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, the musical event Sunday night had some shining moments that kept audience members and fans at home talking and tweeting long after the finale.
The show kicked off with some major female power from Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Grande started things off with "Break Free." We then got some major booty-shaking from Minaj's "Anaconda." The two singers then paired up with Jessie J for "Bang Bang."
The night’s fashion featured J.Lo in a sexy long dress covered in metallic shimmer and a few cutouts, which highlighted the 45-year-old’s curves. Katy Perry and her date Riff Raf paid tribute to the denim gown Britney Spears donned alongside Justin Timberlake at the 2001 VMA’s.
About halfway through the award show, Miley Cyrus took home the Moonman statue for Video of the Year for "Wrecking Ball," but not before having her date Jesse accept the award on her behalf. Cyrus and Jesse started to walk up to the stage together, then Cyrus let her man take the full honor of accepting the award. Jesse spoke on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways turned into homeless youth across America. Cyrus sat watching on with tears in her eyes as fans applauded the charitable dedication.
And perhaps the biggest moment (or moments) of the night featured who other than Beyoncé herself.
The Queen sang renditions of fourteen different songs including "Drunk In Love," "Blue" and "XO." Suggestive to shutting down divorce rumors, hubby Jay Z watched from the audience where he adoringly held dancing Blue Ivy on his lap throughout the twenty-minute performance. Beyoncé ended by thanking her fans, her "Blue, boo" and her "beloved."
As a standing ovation commenced, Jay and Blue joined her on stage where they all hugged, kissed, and walked off stage as a united family.
