There are many causes of hair loss in women. Among the most common are hormonal imbalances, stress, and poor diet. Many of these issues can be addressed with your doctor, and many women who experience excessive hair loss manage to have a full recovery after seeing to their overall health. In fact, hair loss is often the first indication of a more serious problem, so addressing it with your doctor now may save you further health problems later on.

Products for Hair Loss

There are plenty of drugs for hair loss on the market, and some of them can be helpful to women with severe hair loss, but for most women, drugs aren't the best solution to the problem. Generally, the best way to treat hair loss is to take a holistic approach that supports overall health and wellness. Some things to try at home include:

  • Taking a good multi-vitamin each day, specifically one with high levels of vitamins B, C, D, and E
  • Taking a fish oil supplement that provides Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Eating a well balanced diet high in natural sources of protein and vitamins and low in refined sugar and simple carbs
  • Try getting regular scalp massages or even visiting an acupuncturist—these treatments increase blood flow to the scalp, which may help stressed hair
  • Find ways to reduce stress—try meditation, yoga, herbal teas, exercise or anything that helps you feel more relaxed

Unfortunately, there is no definite cure for hair loss, and often no definitive cause, especially in women. Use your common sense when deciding whether or not to purchase or use a particular product. If the claims made by advertisers seem too good to be true, they probably are. A much better way to attack the problem is to work to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself.
