It’s a good thing Emma Watson has some experience with magic in her back pocket! The Harry Potter alumna, 24, has been casted as Belle in Disney's live-action film adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
Watson shared the happy news with her fans on Monday via Facebook.
"I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There.' My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singling lessons," she wrote. "I can’t wait for you to see it."
Plans to remake the fairytale classic were confirmed by Walt Disney Pictures in June 2014.
Bill Condon, who directed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn installment, will also be directing the highly anticipated adaptation. Production reportedly will begin in a few months.
The script was written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the original draft of the screenplay.
Disney fans hold their favorites to a high standard and this won’t be an exception. The original animated film, released in 1991, earned a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards and was later a Broadway musical in 1994.
Ahead of Beauty and the Beast, a similar live-action version of Cinderella starring Cate Blanchett and Lily James will arrive in theaters March 2015. The Jungle Book is also in the works under direction Jon Favreau.
Based on Watson’s impeccable red carpet fashion sense, we’re looking forward to seeing it translated into Belle’s big yellow ball gown!
