Chad Smith and Will Ferrell may be celebrity look-a-likes, but who would win in a banging drum battle?
That much-asked question was answered Thursday night when Ferrell and the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer faced off on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon in an epic competition.
Tensions between the dopplegangers were "red hot" after Ferrell pretended to be Smith in a Reddit AMA earlier this year.
"A lot of people think that it's me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers," Ferrell said, "But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith."
Smith responded in typical drum fashion, challenging the comedian/actor in an Instagram video from Funny or Die to a drum battle-- which would of course raise money for charity. Smith even went as far as to poke fun at Ferrell's cowbell playing, a jab at the Anchorman star's famous "Saturday Night Live" sketch popularizing the instrument and coining the phrase "more cowbell."
The pair raised more than $300,000 for Cancer for College and buildup for the battle began.
After impersonating each other during a pre-battle interview on The Tonight Show the two sat behind their sets and began to show off their soloing skills.
While many may have been shocked by Ferrell's talent, Rolling Stone reports his performance was actually played by Questlove.
Ferrell was crowned the winner and received a golden cowbell trophy before the two were joined on stage by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
