Gone are the days in our teens where we had those enviable flat stomachs and didn't worry a bit about those hamburger and fries moments.  And we had older women telling us, "You just wait until you're my age!  You won't be able to eat like that anymore!"  And we didn't believe them.  We subconsciously thought our metabolisms were invincible and that their words of belly fat and weight gain warnings didn't exist.  Then we got older, we had our babies or not, but still, we got older.  And we continued to eat as we always had.  Then one day those jeans didn't snap as easily as they once had.  And they got caught on our hips, seemingly playing a dirty trick on us as we pulled, sucked it in and flat out hiked them up relentlessly, only to have them creep up once we did get them buttoned.  Belly fat.  Weight gain. No one is immune except for the anorexic fashion runway models.  Reality bites.

Get Rid of Belly Fat and Stop Weight Gain

Though we are older now and have been humbled by our elder friends' wisdom, all is not lost.  Yeah, we had a few babies.  And yeah, maybe we ate a lot of stuff we shouldn't have eaten.  Still, there are ways to reverse the bulging stuff we see in the mirror and get rid of belly fat.  Here are some suggestions to help your clothes fit better, stop the weight gain, and get rid of belly fat.

  • Shun saturated fats:  In short, no more fast foods unless you are sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can make healthy choices when ordering.  No more of those signature fat-filled burgers that we see advertised.  No more french fries.  Forget the chocolate shakes and pop, even diet pop.  Now, this doesn't mean that you have to live in boredom when it comes to getting rid of belly fat; just make healthier choices.  Choose grilled chicken over the burgers.  Choose a regular salad over the Caesar salad.  Use salad dressing sparingly if going the salad route.

  • Drink lots of water throughout the day:  Many times when we are hungry, our bodies betray us in that we really are likely thirsty.  We should be drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day.  Put a slice of lemon or lime in your water to add flavor and eliminate water weight.  Our hormones are so tricky and complex that some days we wake up and our rings fit, and other times we can't slide that ring down our finger to save our lives.  Which brings us to the next point:  watch your sodium intake.  When selecting or making meals, forego the salt.
  • Up your fruits and vegetables:  Not only are fruits and vegetables healthy, but they can fill you up and help you get rid of fat by encouraging your body to eliminate fat naturally.
  • Weight train:  Countless studies show that women who weight train reduce the circumference of their tummies significantly, as compared to the girls that just like to do cardiovascular workouts.  If you are a member of a gym, hit the circuit training classes or group fitness weight training classes.  You will be amazed at the results.  If you are not into gyms, then you can work out at home.  There are lots of weight training videos out there that can teach your proper techniques.
