Zayn Malik is reportedly leaving popular boy band One Direction, almost a week after rumors circulated that he was cheating on his fiancée, Perrie Edwards. The 22-year-old left the band's On The Road Again tour last Friday and returned to the UK citing stress.
Now Malik has made the decision to leave the band for good. In a statement to MailOnline, he said, "My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band."
He continued, "I'd like to apologize to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right."
But 1D fans shouldn't worry that Zayn leaving means the end of hits like Story Of My Life and What Makes You Beautiful. Bandmates Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson will continue One Direction as a four-member group. The band also plans to release a fifth album.
One Direction released a statement to MailOnline saying, "We're really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we've gone through so much together, so we will always be friends."
